Plate Full of Foresight

In this information saturated world we live in today, it can and will be overwhelming figuring out how to nourish ourselves.  Many focus on fiber, sugar, fat, vitamins and minerals, but as if they are separate entities, leading to specific call to actions and fad diets like The Starch Solution, Fully Raw Diet, Paleo diet, AtkinsHigh Carb-Low Fat, The Zone Diet, The Mediterranean Diet  and many more.  Most diets out there today, focus on calorie restriction and eating lots of high protein foods, but really low on the carbs in an effort to build muscle and burn more fat.  This approach is a veteran in the diet world, and does yield results sometimes, but leads to binge eating on cheat days.

“Eating disorders are serious conditions related to persistent eating behaviors that negatively impact your health, your emotions and your ability to function in important areas of life.” (Mayo Clinic)

I see a problem there.  I don’t view it as eating lean, then enjoying your “faturdays” every other Saturday.  I see it as restriction and binge eating, in other words, an eating disorder.  In order to become our greatest versions we need to adopt a lifestyle that compliments, loves and nurtures the body.  Not one that is going to deprive it for weeks on end, leading to destructive binge eating of many unhealthy foods, that according to a biochemist, wouldn’t even be considered food a real food.

We should all approach our eating habits with foresight in mind.  Meaning, where will this diet take me in five years?  We should definitely live in the moment, yes of course because all we have is now.  However, don’t you desire a tomorrow as well?  Don’t you desire golden years without dialysis, or heart medication?  If so, then the choices you make living in this now moment should reflect that.
