Noise:

Fireworks, loud music, screaming, really anything loud scares away bad/evil spirits.  I hate to use the term bad or evil, because I just believe they are troubled or misunderstood.  They can, however, be an annoyance, so the loud noise is a good idea for your sanity.  Make all the loud noise you want.  Take this opportunity as your chance to scream at the top of your lungs.  You know you want to–that is one of the best feelings in the world.  At the stroke of midnight, there will be fireworks popping off, so your screams will blend right in.  Make some noise and banish those pesky spirits that want to hate on your new year of good fortune.  Kramer_and_Jerry_screaming

Kissing:

Throw out your crap!

FullSizeRender(8).jpgLet it go!  Let it gooooo!  All of your items that will not serve you in the following year need to hit the bricks.  Make room for more blessings, good fortune and luck to come!  To make room for all your new goodies, return old items that you bought but changed your mind due to buyers remorse.  Return them before the following day, don’t bring those unwanted items in the new year.  To sort, take each item, close your eyes and visualize how and when you will be using it in the following year.  If you can’t see it, toss it, cause it’s not happening.  When you gather all of your things and take them to your dumpster or donation spot, say a little prayer/affirmation/spell such as this one:

If this will not serve me next year,

I release it to dry someone’s tear.

bags of trash i leave behind,

for another to have treasure to find.

Or something like that (I’m not a poet).  Repeat it three or so times, until it really resonates in your heart, and close it with a “so shall it be/ so mote it be/ amen/ hotep” whatever you like to say to end something.

Now, there are food superstitions such as eating cabbage, sausage, cornbread and black eyed peas that I’d rather not go into.  I agree with the some of the theories behind them, just not the foods of choice.  In no way do I believe that eating a piece of a pig will bring me good fortune!  It will definitely bring my doctor good fortune when I’m going in for diabetes medication or dialysis.  I’ll ring in the new year with plant based, nature friendly foods for my fortune.  Anyway……
