DIY Disaster: Chickpea Flour, oh my chocolate chips!!!

WP_20150630_013
It was as if I put ROCKS in this baby. The screams that came from this thing!

I think I heard my food processor cry yesterday evening.  It was lamenting and crying for the good ole days of it’s previous owner who probably put gentle products like tomatoes, steamed veggies or some other type of produce that processed within three minutes.  I bought it second hand for the sole purpose of putting it to work to churn my own nut butters and what I thought would be chickpea flour.  Well the chickpea flour plan did not go as planned; moreover, I think it killed my poor innocent, food processor!  Oh the chew-manity!

Chickpea flour has tons of protein and fiber, doesn’t need eggs to bind it in baking and is gluten free!  I didn’t have any on hand and really wanted to make chocolate chip cookies.  I had dry chickpeas and thought for sure this would just churn out in a few and transform into beautiful, suave, garbanzo bean flour.

I’m sorry for posting my failure, but I think it’s important that I spread the word of caution to NOT try to make this flour at home with a regular bladed food processor.  I’m on a mission to save the lives of all the innocent food processors in the kitchens of the world.  Also, I dare not try it this in my Vitamix either.  The torturous screaming that came from this…oooh I can still hear it!  I’m so glad I didn’t try it in my Vitamix.  I would have ruined my smoothie game for a good couple of weeks.

I will not accept defeat!  I will try this again. I think I’ll wash them better and toast them the next time and try again.  I can not and will not give up.  I’m the Divine Veggie Mama Da#@!!  Wish me luck!  Share your success stories with making this flour please, help a sister out 🙂

  1. I feel you. I still only have a cheap standard blender. I think because it wasn’t properly placed atop the base, the plastic gear split in the middle of blending my smoothie. What a horrible noise!!! And it took some prying to get the pitcher off! Determined to still make my smoothie, I dropped little by little into my processor. It somewhat did the trick, but oh what a mess, and adding ice–terrible idea! Come to think of it, I made it after your warm smoothie post 😉 But, no more smoothies until I get my new part 🙁

    • Oh no!!! I laughed and sighed while reading this because it made me think of all our mishaps and adventures together. lol…remember our guacamole-reality-tv date nights?!
