DIY~Plant Based Natural Hair Care Scalp Growth Treatment ~Sunday Squeeze~ phew!

Oh my gosh, I juiced an onion again, smh; however I did not drink it!  Onions have been shown in studies to stimulate hair growth, a lot.  Something around 70%-80% of alopecia patients saw increased hair growth in their patches after applying onion juice topically to their scalp, the success rate was slightly higher in men (figures).  They contain the beauty mineral, sulfur, which helps your body regenerate hair follicles, fight inflammation and produce collagen.  Sulfur doesn’t have to make you think of fire, brimstone, stinky armpits and rotten eggs, no!  Rethink this mineral and see it as your new secret to unlocking healthy, luxurious hair and supple, baby bottom smooth skin.  Well, at least I’m retraining my brain to think of it that way.

So this week I started my two month onion juice scalp treatment.  I juiced one onion which should last me a good week (maybe??), chilling in the back of my fridge.  I can’t commit to this putrid stench every night, so for now, I’ll see what magic happens with every 2-3 days of application.  I think you’re supposed to just apply it to the roots and massage it in, or at least that’s just the method I’m doing.

I believe that nature has left us with an abundance of the necessary nutrients to live our best, beautiful life.  I don’t understand why I have to purchase over the counter, synthetic forms of biotin for healthy hair, if it’s a natural vitamin–isn’t there a plant out there somewhere that will have a better, more absorbable form?  Why don’t I just eat or juice that?  Or if there isn’t a plant based form of that vitamin, maybe it’s not that mandatory–I mean, if it was, mother nature would have left it, because she make NO mistakes, but correct mistakes.  Ok, I feel a rant coming on, so i’ll digress and share with you my youtube video of my onion juice madness.

I don’t really care about having long hair, but healthy hair.  I’m so curious to see what the next two months will bring.  I do have a stress patch from having babies and losing my Mother, so who knows, maybe it will recover with this funky liquid.  Oops, there I go ranting again, I thought I digressed.  Well, I digress again.

Cheers and raise a green glass to stimulated hair follicles!

  1. You are hilarious!!! Your reaction? Priceless!!! I loved when your son said “you’re funny mommy”!! That was the cutest thing ever!! I’m intrigued, how do you wash it out with lemon juice? I’ve never heard that before and trust me, I’ve done A LOT of research on onion juice for my damaged edges. Used it for a good while but I think I was so anxious for it to grow back (and stressed about my edges too) that I did the most (trying the various suggested oil mixtures for edges at the same time), massaging too vigorously which might have been counterproductive and a whole lot of other things. I’ll definitely give it a try again if I ever decide to regrow my hair again, this time with more patience lol. Your hair did look super soft too!!

    • OOh Filomena thank you! My son is a silly guy, we’re always laughing, and screaming lol. I have heard about and experienced the same problem with massaging and just obsessing over OUR hair. You look great with your hair short btw 😉 Patience is something I hope to gain from this exercise. The Lemon juice I learned from my big brother (who learned it from Sister Suzar). I just squeeze one lemon, add a little water (1/4 cup?) and apply it to my roots and LIGHTLY (lol) massage it throughout the rest of my hair. It really cleanses it, and more importantly cleanses and nourishes the scalp, without striping it. Plant based is the way to go with nearly everything!

  2. I kinda want to try it! It looks like a zero on the fun meter but I’m intrigued. I’m with you on expensive vitamins for hair growth and health; where they occur naturally is where we should be getting them. Forget the middle man!

Your hair is lovely. Please keep us posted on your results!

  3. YOu and that damn onion!!! LOL!!! BUt truly your hair did look great. I’m embarrassed to say, especially on your blog, that i do not have a juicer, BUT maybe one day I’ll experiment with an onion too 😉

    • You have a blender though, blend it and strain it 🙂 GIRL, the onion juice struggle is real. I STILL smell like onions. I’m going to have to do a follow up video, to tell people “Don’t do it!!!”

      • yes i do!
i want to try it for my edges. i still try to do my hair right even though its hibernating, lol!! 😉 I’ll just have to remember to do it on a day when I have absolutely nowhere to go!!

        • Yes, Cause I’m not there to laugh at your musty scalp with you lol. Don’t leave it in for long…it’s tempting too, but don’t. Use lemon juice after, that helps A LOT. My mistake was I used shampoo to try to deodorize it, and it all went to hell after that.
