Magenta Magic Makeover Juice Recipe

Yes the warm weather has finally arrived!  The Spring Goddess had to fight this cold and rainy weather tooth and nail to grace us with her presence so that we may slay in our crochet tops, espadrilles, and short-shorts!  Now, it’s time to prepare our bodies for the long days of warm sunshine and shed our excess water weight from the savory holiday food choices we made in the name of fellowship.  It’s time to trim away the excess and unwanted fat that we may have packed on to keep our divine bodies warm during the cold months.  It’s time to pamper our skin, hair and nails with doses of the beauty minerals such as silica, sulfur, and biotin.  It’s time to juice.

Open your windows, blast your roots reggae and plug in your juicer! Bikini season isn’t just around the corner, it’s next-door and juicing is a perfect way to increase your nutrients and help shed excess, unwanted water weight and fat.

In this drink you’ll get:

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin K
  • Magnesium
  • Calcium
  • Silica
  • sulfur
  • Potassium (one of my faves)
  • Biotin (just a little bit)

What you’ll need:

  • 4-5 mini red apples (peeled and seeded)
  • 2-3 pears
  • 1/4 head of red/purple cabbage
  • 1 Japanese cucumber or two small cucumbers (peeled)
  • 1/2- 1 whole peeled lemon (according to your citrus preference)
  • Optional
    • 1 cup drinking water
    • 1-2 tbsp honey or agave

IMG_2504This juice satisfies a sweet tooth and is a perfect recipe for new juice heads.  It yields a bright and magical magenta color that will visually please the young and old.  My poor boys are always getting either doo-doo-brown or green juices and smoothies, so they welcomed this drink with open arms and warm smiles.

After juicing and straining, you can enjoy this beauty juice straight up or doctor it up to your liking.

~Variations~

Water it down:  Sometimes it’s nice to water juices down to add in extra hydration, stretch the juice out, or to tame the strong taste.

Sweeten it up:  I say don’t be afraid to sweeten up a fresh juice, within reason.  Natural sweeteners like honey and agave won’t have the same affect on candida in your gut like white sugar would, so I would opt for one of those, and a little goes a long way.  Sometimes, a teaspoon or tablespoon of honey helps to enhance the natural flavors of a fresh juice, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me.

Zing it up:  Lemons and limes are always welcome.  If you are new to juicing or love citrus flavors, a lemon or lime will always make a freshly pressed drink more refreshing.  This is also a great option because of the added Vitamin C.  I prefer lemons–limes are great but offer a different flavor.

Spice it up:  Ginger adds a kick and a spice to fuel that fire and desire for a healthier you.  It’s a great anti-inflammatory and compliments nearly every fresh juice recipe I use.  A little goes a long way.
