#HCLF Trend Review and Reflection ~I Like it Raw Season 1~

I decided to make a YouTube video everyday to document my experience, have fun and keep myself accountable.  Well, “I Like It Raw” only has nine episodes in the season, and it may be cancelled, lol.  I loved this experience of trying a fully raw diet, however focusing on the current high carb, low fat (#HCLF) trend got me into trouble.  My sugar would spike with these large quantities of fruit and then plummet later on leaving me with this profound empty feeling that was beyond hunger.  Envision a car that is driving with the gas light on, and a nervous driver that will stop at the nearest gas station no matter the price or quality of the gasoline.  That is how my hunger can be described on this diet.  When I was content, I was extremely satisfied with my meals and that first bite of my salads were orgasmic.  Probably because my body desperately needed more fuel and hydration.

I was prepared to continue on for the following week, however focusing on just the raw part, and not that trendy #hclf.  I was going to experiment with raw breads, crackers and more nut butter creams.  Well, I was brought back to my current reality and saw that the ingredients needed to fully indulge in this lifestyle are not currently available to me (as of right now).

I will revisit living this lifestyle to the fullest again, at a later date when I can get my hands on more raw ingredients.  I want to thank all of the fruits and veggies that have blessed me with the indescribable phyto-energy throughout this journey that sustained me and kept me motivated to continue on.  Once that hunger sets in though–it’s game on!  Also, thank you to my ancestors for telling me that it was okay to enjoy some cooked foods like natural baked breads, steamed veggies and grains.

I have gained an even bigger appreciation for raw foods, and appreciate my green juice more now, than ever before.  I realized that caffeine is truly unnecessary when I start my day with my green juices.  I’ve made two almond milk lattes since this experiment and did not finish either of them.  I am still going to live my plant based lifestyle focusing on live, raw foods, just without the actual title stamped on my forehead so all of the other raw foodies out there won’t feel the need to chastise me for eating my spelt bread, or plum preserves (I made some with the plums from our tree!).

Excuse the thumbnails.  It was throwback Thursday when I was editing them and decided to use some of my pics from Japan’s Fukuoka Now magazine, and I’m trolling for clicks!

Cheers!  Enjoy a Mono meal while you watch my veggie madness or snuggle up with a nice cold glass of fresh green juice 🙂
